Help for iTuner Pro, a real-time instrument tuner for iPhone and Apple Watch.
Getting started
- Install iTuner Pro from the App Store on your iPhone or Apple Watch.
- Open the app and allow microphone access when prompted.
- Choose a tuning preset such as Guitar Standard, Guitar Drop D, Bass, Ukulele, Violin, Viola, Cello, Mandolin, or Banjo.
- Play one string or note at a time near the device microphone.
- Adjust your instrument until the note and cents deviation settle near the target.
iTuner Pro uses microphone audio only for live pitch detection. It does not require an account for core tuning features.
Troubleshooting
Microphone access is denied
Open the iOS Settings app, find iTuner Pro, and enable Microphone access. Then return to iTuner Pro and start listening again.
The app does not detect a note
- Move closer to the device microphone and play a clear, sustained note.
- Tune in a quieter room when possible.
- Mute nearby strings so the app receives one dominant pitch.
- Check that another app is not using the microphone at the same time.
The detected note jumps around
Very short notes, background noise, harmonics, or multiple strings ringing together can make pitch detection unstable. Play one string at a steady volume and wait for the display to settle.
The tuning reference feels different from another tuner
Check the A4 reference in Settings. The default concert pitch is A4 = 440 Hz, but iTuner Pro lets you adjust the reference from 430 Hz to 450 Hz.
Apple Watch tuning is not available
Make sure the watch app is installed, microphone permission is enabled on Apple Watch, and watchOS is up to date. Restarting the watch can also refresh microphone permissions.
